The Lib Dems’ education pledge isn’t as generous as it seems

Ahead of their manifesto launch today, the Lib Dems announced an extra £10 billion for schools. A generous package, right? That is until you look at a little closer at the details.

The Lib Dems get the extra £10 billion figure by comparing their plans for 2024/25 with what the Tories plan to spend this year.

In reality, by 2022-23 they’re only planning to spend £400 million, or 0.79%, more than the Tories.

Figures in the table above can be found on here.

Once again, the Lib Dems are showing us that when it comes to education, you can’t trust them to tell you the whole truth.
