The facts behind the Tories’ failure on the NHS

Matt Hancock’s speech at Tory Conference contained very little information about what his party are actually doing to the NHS.

To help understand the true extent of the damage him, and his party, have caused to the NHS, you need to look at what has happened to our treasured NHS under their control. 

  • In 2018/19 there were 2.9 million people waiting longer than four hours in A&E, compared to just over 350,000 in 2009/10.

  • The number of people waiting more than 2 weeks for urgent cancer treatment has more than trebled from 45,969 in 2009/10 to 179,260 to 2018/19.

  • According to the latest figures from NHS England, there are now over 4.4 million people on the English waiting list. It was just 2.66 million in 2010.

  • Since 2009, the total mental health nursing workforce has decreased by 10.6 per cent. NHS England lost 6,000 mental health nurses in 10 years.
